10/15/2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, May the Peace of the Lord be with you. I have spoken many times about the importance of prayer in our lives, especially the importance of spending some quiet time with the Lord. While praying the Office of Reading from the Breviary on Monday, October 09, 2017, I discovered a beautiful treatise which I would like to share with you. From a treatise on Cain and Abel by Saint Ambrose, bishop (Lib. 1, 9, 34, 38-39: CSEL 32, 369, 371-372)   Pray especially for the whole body of the Church   “Offer God a sacrifice of praise and fulfill your vows...

10/08/2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, May the Peace of the Lord be with you. I made it home late yesterday with all 43 pilgrims. The trip was richly rewarding. We certainly did a lot in 12 days. We began in Paris with praying at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart which is located high on the hill of Montamartre. It is estimated that 13,000,000 people a year visit this shrine. From there we traveled to the cathedral of Notre Dame. It was like traveling back in time. Leaving the cathedral we made our way to the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal where we celebrated Mass. On...

10/01/2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, By the time you read this, I and the other pilgrims, will have celebrated an early Mass at the shrine in Lourdes, had breakfast, boarded the bus and are heading for Spain. I prayed for all of you, but especially all of you who asked for prayers and those of you are suffering from some illness. Several of you are fighting cancer, and you were certainly in my prayers. I will also pray for you at the tomb of St. Theresa of Avila as well at the tomb of St. James the Apostle. Life certainly throws us some difficult curves! I...

End Of Summer

Now that summer vacation time has passed, it is time for us to go back to work, sort of speaking, and get our priorities in life back in order. Many of us took a vacation from Church and Sunday Mass this summer. It is time to get back to a regular routine of participating in the community celebration of Sunday Mass. You and I simply cannot live in this world separated from God and from the community to which He has made us a member. The end of the summer also means the beginning of a new school year. Now that all of the schools have opened their doors,...

08/17/2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I remember it as if it was yesterday. It all began when I went to an evangelization conference in Phoenix, Arizona, when at the last minute I decided to change the workshop that I had signed up for and went instead to the one about Life Teen. I had never heard of Life Teen before, but something was telling me to go to this particular workshop. When the presentation had ended, I knew that this was a program that I wanted to bring to SSCM. I few months later, Gilbert Juarez, the parish youth minister, and I flew to Mesa, Arizona,...

08/17/2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Wow! What a storm Harvey was! As you know, most of the coast from Corpus Christ to Louisiana was affected by the storm. Some areas suffered more damage than others. In fact, as I write this, a large portion of the Houston metroplex was submerged by the 52 plus inches of rain that Harvey dumped on this area. Thousands of people lost their homes and businesses. It will take years to rebuild. We here is Corpus Christi need to bend our knees and thank the Lord. What we suffered was minor to what the people from Aransas Pass, Rockport, Fulton and...

Daily Mass and Monday Adoration

Make the summer months more meaningful by making the sacrifice to participate in Mass each morning. Attending daily Mass gives one the opportunity to sit at the feet of the Lord as you listen to His Word as it being proclaimed and then to come to the table of the Lord to feast on His own Body and Blood in the Eucharist. There is no better way to begin your day than by participating in daily Mass AT 7:30 A.M. It is well worth what ever sacrifice that you may have to make to be present and participate in the greatest prayer that we have as Catholics – the...

The Real Presence

We Catholics truly believe that Jesus is really present in the Blessed Sacrament, the Eucharist. For us who belong to SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish, this means that Jesus is waiting for us to come spend time with Him. You are encouraged to accept this invitation every day, but especially on Monday of each week when we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament all day. There is a special invitation for us to gather as a community from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to give Him public praise and worship. Jesus is waiting patiently for you. He has so much He wants to tell you.
